One of the things I love most about my job as a pregnancy, postpartum, and pelvic floor physical therapist is advocating for moms and teaching moms to advocate for themselves. Pregnancy and postpartum are some the most demanding phases of life due to the immense amount of change going on in the body and the mind – all while sleep deprived – and these women deserve far more support and accommodation than they receive. Even more, the love between a mother and her children is so strong that mothers are often willing to sacrifice their own health and well-being for the sake of their little ones.
As mothers, we have to do better about prioritizing our health for the sake of our families and for the sake of our babies. And with that, I want to lead by example. As this twin pregnancy progresses, I am realizing that I cannot push through the way I have done in my previous pregnancies nor do I want to put this extra strain on my body for the sake of the two precious lives growing inside of me. Because of this, I am going to be taking a step back from treating patients beginning in October. This is a hard decision to make as I truly love my patients and am passionate about the work I do, but I would not feel right advocating for my patients to listen to their bodies during pregnancy without listening to my own.
Thankfully, Life Changes Physical Therapy has some big changes in the works to allow our patients to continue to get the best quality, concierge care during this time!
