Happy National Twin Day from Life Changes Physical Therapy!
As a new twin mom, I could not let this day pass without celebrating my two newest little loves and the body that carried them for 37 long weeks to arrive safe and healthy into the world!
As I reflect back on my twin pregnancy, I have grown a newfound appreciation for the female body. I am absolutely in awe of the ability of our bodies to adapt, adjust, and transform while building a human life. Pregnancy and childbirth are truly a miracle and I consider it an honor to work with this population.
I have a newfound trust in my own body to grow, change, and move just as nature intended. The body changes that go along with pregnancy (and are only amplified during pregnancy with multiples) can be scary – leaving the way you look, move, and feel almost unrecognizable to yourself. But during this pregnancy, my body proved time and time again that every change and growth was purposeful and just right.
I have a newfound confidence in myself to endure. Twin pregnancy was no walk in the park. Despite the lack of complication, there was still a heaping amount of discomfort, sleepless nights, fatigue, and more. Twin pregnancy opened my eyes to the fact that I can endure far more than I give myself credit for – and thank goodness for that because Momming for twin newborns and a four year old and a two year old all while recovering from childbirth and surviving on minimal sleep requires A LOT of endurance!
And finally, I have a newfound gratitude for the knowledge that I possess when it comes to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. This knowledge allowed me to remain active and confident in my abilities throughout pregnancy. It allowed me to prepare for childbirth effectively. It has allowed me to begin my recovery more quickly and with a greater understanding of the healing process. My goal is to share this knowledge with other moms and twin moms to help you have the least complicated and most active pregnancy as well as the most effective postpartum recovery possible!
If you’re a mom of twins, give yourself an extra pat on the back today and reflect a little on your own journey – whether you’re still in the pregnancy stage or have grown twin children possibly having twins of their own! What did you learn along the way?
