Mom Fuel

Mom Fuel

As a mom of two toddlers, I am constantly on the go. So what is it that keeps me going? What is the secret sauce I keep in my cup that keeps me keeping up? No, its not coffee or even caffeinated. And no, its not wine or margarita (although some days I wish it was 😜). And before you stop reading…no, I’m not trying to sell you on one of those many concoctions that hold millions of empty promises like making you feel or look 10 years younger.

My ā€œMom Fuelā€ is an inorganic, transparent, colorless, odorless chemical substance that provides neither food nor energy but is vital for all known life. Yes, you’ve got it. My ā€œMom Fuelā€ is none other than water.

Hydration is so important through all stages of life and especially important for moms – whether dealing with the sleep deprivation of newborn life, the demands of breastfeeding, the energy requirements of keeping up with toddlers and young kids, or the patience and clarity needs of dealing with teen attitudes and decisions. Staying hydrated can help to improve sleep, cognition, and mood – all of which can feel like a struggle in new parenthood. Being well hydrated can increase energy levels, reduce headaches, improve digestion, improve constipation, help with maintaining a healthy weight, improve waste removal from the body, improve muscle function, and more!

Did you know an estimated 75% of American adults are chronically dehydrated? As moms, we have a responsibility to care for our own health so we can be the best moms we can be to take care of our babies. So as tempting as it may be to grab another cup of coffee for the caffeine buzz, reach for that pop or sweet tea to ease that sweet craving, or guzzle a glass of wine after a long day of dealing with kids, think twice. The answer to your problems may be simpler than it seems and it all starts with another glass of cool, refreshing, thirst-quenching, hydrating water.
