Woo hoo! You’ve made it to the second trimester! But second trimester with twins means more need for more support. Here are a few of the products I used to support myself and my pregnancy during the second trimester!
*Disclaimer – I have no conflict of interest and am not sponsoring any of these products. Pregnancy is never one-size-fits-all, and you should work with your healthcare team to find what products may be right for you.
PREGNANCY PILLOW

Doesn’t matter which brand or style you put your loyalty in, but a good pregnancy pillow that works for you is an absolute must-have! When searching for the ideal pregnancy pillow, remember your side or semi-reclined will really be your only options for sleep positions as your belly grows. Therefore, it’s important to look for something that provides enough support for your head/neck, your abdomen, and between your knees to support your expanding pelvis. Remember, you can always add more pillows on top of your foundational pregnancy pillow as your grow too!
BELLY BAND

With twin pregnancy, your abdomen will be expanding faster and further. Because of this rapid change, you may feel more of a loss in core stability and support earlier on in the pregnancy. A good belly band can help to support the core musculature and provide a little bit of lift of the abdominal contents off of the extra-taxed pelvic floor. I loved my Bao Bei Body belly band to provide a little lift and support, especially during long days of working with patients or running after kids. With twin pregnancy, I would suggest sizing up or buying multiple sizes to allow for more use beyond the second trimester.
COMPRESSION STOCKINGS

Real talk, I really don’t understand why everyone doesn’t own a pair of compression stockings – pregnant or not – but that’s neither here nor there. During pregnancy, a good pair of over-the-counter compression stockings is essential. These can help improve blood flow back to the heart when you are on your feet for long periods, seated at a desk for long periods, traveling by car or plane, or have swelling. The hormonal changes that go along with pregnancy as well as the weight gain and body composition change puts extra strain on your blood vessels to get blood back to the heart. These stockings can help assist your venous system, thereby assisting blood pressure regulation, swelling, and even restless leg symptoms.
TWIN SUPPORT MOM

Although you can’t buy it on Amazon, this recommendation is essential. Whether this is your first pregnancy or you’ve had many prior, twin pregnancy will not look or feel like you or your friend’s singleton pregnancy and that’s okay. Growing two babies places a greater demand on your body and comes with greater hormonal strain, therefore my last recommendation is to find one or more seasoned twin moms to support you. Try not to compare your pregnancy with them or anyone else but accept recommendations, advice, and support with an open heart and mind. Remember, the wisdom we gain from experience is invaluable, and someday you will also be the wisdom-giver that may be just what another twin mom needs.
